Our Mangalore to Kannur cab runs south along NH66, the coastal highway that crosses into Kerala at Talapady and passes Kasaragod, Bekal and Payyanur. The 140 km drive usually takes 3.5–4 hours, depending on highway widening works and town traffic. It is an easy, flat route with backwater and sea views, ideal for a one-way drop to Kannur town, the airport at Mattannur or a beach stay.

One-way fares include fuel and driver allowance (minimum 130 km). Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Mangalore, billed at the round-trip rate with a daily minimum. Tolls, parking and interstate permits are extra where they apply. Tempo Travellers, Urbania and mini buses are available for round trips.
Leaving Mangalore over the Netravati bridge, the road passes Ullal and reaches the Kerala border at Talapady. From Manjeshwar the highway follows the coast through Uppala and Kasaragod, with lagoons, river mouths and fishing villages along the way. Bekal Fort sits just off the road near Pallikere, and the route continues through Kanhangad, Nileshwar, Cheruvathur and Payyanur before entering Kannur. NH66 is being widened along much of this stretch, so short diversions are common, but the road is level and comfortable for all vehicle types.
Plan around the monsoon: between June and September, rain on the coast and in the ghats can turn a 3.5–4 hours drive into a much longer one, and slips occasionally force a detour. Winter and early summer are dry and clear, and early starts beat both heat and traffic.
The coastal highway is flat and easy, so a sedan is perfectly comfortable for most travellers on this route. Tell us how many people and bags are travelling and we will suggest a vehicle: a Swift Dzire or Etios for small parties, an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta for families, or a Tempo Traveller 12+1, Force Urbania 16+1 or mini bus for groups.
