Every Bangalore road trip starts with the same challenge: getting out of the city. A trip to Mysore can take as long to reach Kengeri from Whitefield as it does to drive the expressway from Kengeri to Mysore. Our drivers plan the exit based on your pickup area and destination:

• Southbound to Mysore, Coorg, Ooty and Wayanad: Mysore Road and the expressway, with NICE Road for south and east Bangalore.
• Westbound to Hassan, Chikmagalur, Mangalore and Udupi: Tumakuru Road to Nelamangala and NH 75.
• North-west to Shivamogga, Hubli, Gokarna and Goa: Tumakuru Road and NH 48.
• Eastbound to Chennai, Vellore and Pondicherry: Hosur Road and NH 48 into Tamil Nadu.
• Towards Tirupati: Old Madras Road to Hoskote and NH 75 via Kolar.
• North to Hyderabad, Anantapur and Puttaparthi: Ballari Road and NH 44 past the airport.

The single best piece of advice we can give is to leave early. A 5 or 6 am pickup regularly saves an hour or more compared with 9 am.

Under four hours

Mysore, Hassan, Vellore, Nandi Hills, Shravanabelagola, Lepakshi, Kolar and Yelagiri. Perfect for day trips or a single night away.

Four to seven hours

Coorg, Chikmagalur, Ooty, Wayanad, Sakleshpur, Tirupati, Chennai, Coimbatore, Shivamogga and Pondicherry. The classic weekend range.

Long haul

Mangalore, Udupi, Madurai, Hyderabad, Gokarna, Hampi and Goa. Full-day drives, often best with a very early start or an overnight break.

Weekend getaways done right

For a weekend escape, the cab is half the experience. A round trip means the driver stays with you, takes you to viewpoints and waterfalls that are spread across the hills, and brings you home when you are ready. In places like Coorg, Chikmagalur and Wayanad, where local taxis are hard to find in the evening, this makes a huge difference. Most homestays and resorts provide driver accommodation, and the driver's allowance is built into round-trip pricing.

Pilgrimages from Bangalore

Tirupati is the most popular pilgrimage from the city, often done as an overnight trip with a morning darshan. Several popular routes from Bangalore pass through protected forests with night traffic restrictions, including the Bandipur stretch on the way to Ooty and Wayanad.
