The boulder-strewn ruins of Hampi, once the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, are on many travellers' must-see lists, but getting there is not always simple. Train timings rarely match flight arrivals, and the nearest airports have limited connections. A private cab from Kempegowda International Airport solves this neatly. The 345 km drive north-west via Tumakuru, Chitradurga and Hosapete takes around six and a half to seven and a half hours on wide highways. Savari Holidays tracks your flight, waits at arrivals and drives you to your guesthouse in Hampi, a hotel in Kamalapura or Hosapete, or wherever you plan to stay.

One-way fares include fuel and driver allowance (minimum 130 km). Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Bangalore Airport, billed at the round-trip rate with a daily minimum. Tolls, parking and interstate permits are extra where they apply. Tempo Travellers, Urbania and mini buses are available for round trips.
Hampi attracts heritage enthusiasts, photographers, rock climbers and backpackers from around the world, and a good number of them arrive through Bengaluru. Overnight trains to Hosapete exist, but if your flight lands in the morning you would face a long wait. Buses are possible but tiring with luggage. A cab lets you leave as soon as you land, stop where you like and arrive directly at your accommodation, which is particularly useful for families and first-time visitors to India.
Instead of heading into Bengaluru, drivers usually take the road via Doddaballapur to join the Tumakuru highway, NH 48, beyond the city's congested northern edge. This is one of the advantages of the airport's location for northbound trips.
From Tumakuru the highway continues through Sira and Hiriyur to Chitradurga. It is a broad, divided road with regular food courts and fuel stations, and it moves quickly for most of the day. The landscape becomes drier and rockier as you head north, giving a hint of the scenery ahead.
At Chitradurga the route switches to NH 50 for Hosapete. The town of Hosapete is the main gateway, with the railway station, larger hotels and the Tungabhadra Dam nearby. Hampi village is around 13 km further, and Kamalapura sits on the southern side of the ruins.
Share your flight number and terminal while booking. The driver tracks the flight and meets you at the arrivals pickup area once you have your luggage. For international travellers we wait through immigration and customs, and the driver stays in contact on phone or WhatsApp. Service is available 24x7, though many visitors prefer to start early in the day so they reach Hampi in time for sunset at Hemakuta Hill or Matanga Hill.
The ruins are spread over a wide area, and the heat can be intense, so having a car makes sightseeing far more comfortable. A common plan is one day for the sacred centre around the Virupaksha temple, Hampi Bazaar and the river, and another for the royal centre, including the Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Queen's Bath and the Vittala temple with its famous stone chariot. Some areas restrict vehicle access, so parts of the day involve walking. Our cab can be booked for local sightseeing as well as the transfer.
Couples and solo travellers are well served by a Swift Dzire or Toyota Etios. Families, photographers carrying equipment and groups of friends usually prefer the space of an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta. School trips, heritage clubs and tour groups can book a Tempo Traveller, Force Urbania or mini bus.
October to February is the most comfortable season, with warm days and cool evenings. From March to May temperatures climb steeply, and sightseeing is best done early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The Hampi Utsav cultural festival, when held, brings music and dance performances to the ruins and draws large crowds, so book transport and rooms early if your trip coincides with it.

Known for its stone chariot and musical pillars, and considered the finest example of Vijayanagara architecture.

About 345 km by road. The drive usually takes six and a half to seven and a half hours via Tumakuru, Chitradurga and Hosapete.
Hampi village is closest to the sights and has simple guesthouses. Hosapete has more hotels and restaurants and is a short drive away. Kamalapura is a quieter middle option.
Yes, by road, though it is a longer route than the short river crossing from Hampi. Share your exact stay and we will plan the best way to get you there.
For most visitors, yes. The monuments are spread out and the afternoons are hot. Some areas require walking, but a car saves a lot of time between the main groups of sites.
October to February has the most comfortable weather. Summer is very hot, so if you visit then, plan sightseeing for early mornings and late afternoons.
