Bangalore Airport to Wayanad Cab

Wayanad's misty plantations, forest resorts and rock caves draw a steady stream of travellers through Kempegowda International Airport, since the district has no airport of its own and Bengaluru offers the widest choice of flights. A Savari Holidays cab bridges the 320 km between KIA and Kalpetta in about seven to eight hours, crossing from Karnataka into Kerala through the Bandipur and Muthanga forests. We track your flight, plan the departure so the forest stretch falls within open hours, and drop you at your resort, treehouse or homestay, wherever it is in the district.

Why timing shapes this trip

The main road from Mysore to Wayanad, NH 766, runs through the core of Bandipur Tiger Reserve. Night traffic through this stretch has been banned for years to protect wildlife, typically from 9 PM to 6 AM. A flight that lands after mid-afternoon may not leave enough time to clear the forest before closing, so we look at your arrival time first and suggest the most practical plan.

Route options from KIA

Standard route via Bandipur and Muthanga

The cab leaves the airport on NH 44, uses a bypass to reach Mysuru Road and takes the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway towards Mysore. From there it heads south through Nanjangud, known for its Srikanteshwara temple, to Gundlupet. The highway then enters Bandipur, crosses into Kerala at Muthanga and arrives in Sulthan Bathery. Kalpetta, Meppadi and Vythiri lie further on.

Alternative for late arrivals

When the forest is closed, some travellers stay the night in Mysore and leave at first light. Another option, depending on your resort's location, is to approach northern Wayanad via Hunsur and Kutta towards Mananthavady and Tholpetty. This road also passes forest areas with their own timing rules, so we confirm the current position before recommending it.

Wayanad is bigger than it looks

Properties are spread across the district, and the drop location makes a real difference to the final hour of driving:

  • Sulthan Bathery: the first major town after the border, close to Edakkal Caves and Muthanga.
  • Kalpetta and Vythiri: the central belt, near Pookode Lake and the Lakkidi viewpoint.
  • Meppadi side: tea estates and resorts towards Chembra Peak and Soochipara Falls. Parts of this area were affected by the 2024 landslides, so we check access before you travel.
  • Mananthavady and Tholpetty: the northern side, near Thirunelli temple and Kuruva Island.

Send us the resort name or a location pin and we will plan accordingly. Some forest and plantation stays are reached by narrow or steep roads, and drivers will coordinate with the property if needed.

Meeting you at the airport

  • Book with your flight number and terminal; the driver tracks the landing time.
  • He meets you at the arrivals pickup area and helps load luggage.
  • Delays are no problem. If a delay pushes you past forest timings, we will discuss the options with you straight away.
  • Our service runs 24x7, including pickups from overnight international flights.

Things to see as you arrive

  • Edakkal Caves: rock shelters near Ambalavayal with carvings believed to date back thousands of years. Expect a steep climb.
  • Banasura Sagar Dam: a large earthen dam with boating and views of islands formed by the reservoir.
  • Pookode Lake: a small, shaded freshwater lake near Vythiri, pleasant for a short walk.
  • Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary: jeep safaris into the forest that adjoins Bandipur and Mudumalai.

Breaking the journey

Seven or eight hours is a long ride after a flight, and a midday break makes a difference. Mysore is the obvious lunch stop, roughly halfway, and Nanjangud's temple is right beside the highway further south. If you have an extra day, a night near Bandipur or Kabini adds a wildlife safari to the trip before you continue into Kerala the next morning.

Vehicle choice

Wayanad's resort roads and hilly terrain make an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta a popular pick, especially for families with luggage. Couples staying at a property on the main road can travel comfortably in a Swift Dzire or Toyota Etios. Groups booking a plantation retreat or a family reunion can take a Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania.

Seasons and tips

October to May is generally the best time to visit, with cool, clear mornings from November to February. The monsoon, from June to September, transforms the landscape but brings very heavy rain and can disrupt hill roads. Carry a light jacket and insect repellent, avoid stopping inside the forest stretches, and keep some cash for places in rural areas where card payments may not work.

Highlights on the way

  • Departure planned around the Bandipur night closure
  • Drop to Kalpetta, Vythiri, Sulthan Bathery, Meppadi or Mananthavady
  • Karnataka to Kerala interstate trip handled end to end
  • Flight tracking and 24x7 airport pickup
  • SUVs suited to Wayanad's resort and estate roads
