About Kempegowda International Airport

The airport, code BLR, sits in Devanahalli, about 35 to 40 km north of central Bengaluru. It has two terminals: the original Terminal 1 and the newer Terminal 2, a striking building known for its indoor gardens and bamboo interiors. Airlines are split between the two, and allocations can change, so always check your ticket or the airline's app for the correct terminal before you travel. Airport transfers within Bengaluru

We cover the whole city. Northern areas such as Yelahanka, Hebbal, Jakkur and Thanisandra are relatively close, while Whitefield, Electronic City, Sarjapur Road, HSR Layout, Koramangala, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Banashankari, Rajajinagar and Kengeri take longer. From the eastern suburbs, drivers often use the Hennur or Budigere roads instead of going through Hebbal. Late at night most of the city is within an hour, but during weekday evening peaks a drive to the south can take two hours or more.

Dropping you at the airport

For departures, the right pickup time depends on where you live and when you fly. As a guide, add your travel time to the airline's recommended reporting time, then allow a buffer for traffic around Hebbal and on Bellary Road. International passengers need extra time for immigration. Tell us your flight time when booking and we will suggest a pickup time.

Outstation trips straight from the airport

Many travellers do not need to enter Bengaluru at all. Because the airport is on the north side of the city, several outstation routes can begin without crossing the centre. We run regular cabs from KIA to:

• Mysore, Srirangapatna and Mandya: via a city bypass and the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway.
• Coorg: through Mysore, Hunsur and Kushalnagar to Madikeri and the estates beyond.
• Ooty and Wayanad: via Mysore and the Bandipur forest, planned around the night closure.
• Chikmagalur and Mangalore: west via Doddaballapur and Nelamangala, avoiding the city.
• Hampi: north-west via Tumakuru and Chitradurga.
• Chennai and Tirupati: east via Hoskote and Kolar.
• Coimbatore: south via Hosur, Krishnagiri and Salem.

Late-night and early-morning flights

A large share of international flights land at Bengaluru between midnight and dawn. We operate around the clock, so a 3 AM arrival is treated like any other. For long outstation drives after a night landing, consider whether you would prefer to rest first; some routes, like those through the Bandipur forest to Ooty and Wayanad, are closed at night in any case.

Choosing a vehicle for airport trips

The Swift Dzire and Toyota Etios have decent boot space for two medium suitcases and hand luggage. Families with larger bags, or anyone travelling with sports equipment or a pram, should choose an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta. For groups arriving together, whether wedding guests, delegations or tour groups, a Tempo Traveller (12+1), Force Urbania (16+1) or mini bus keeps everyone and their luggage in one vehicle.

Places to visit near the airport

If you have a long layover or some spare hours, there are interesting places within an hour of the terminals. Devanahalli Fort, birthplace of Tipu Sultan, is just a few minutes away. Nandi Hills is close enough for a sunrise visit. The Adiyogi statue at the Isha centre near Chikkaballapur and the vineyards around Nandi Valley are other options. A local rental package works well for these short trips.

Tips for a smooth airport transfer

• Switch your phone on as soon as you land so the driver can reach you.
• Save the driver's number before you board.
• Keep a little local currency or a UPI app ready for small purchases on the way.
• If your flight is diverted or cancelled, inform us as soon as you can so we can reschedule.
