A Wayanad to Mysore cab covers about 140 km from Kalpetta in 3.5–4 hours, following NH766 through Sulthan Bathery, the Muthanga and Bandipur forests, Gundlupet and Nanjangud. It is the most direct road from Kerala's hill district to Mysore, and the forest stretch often brings sightings of elephants and deer from the car. An alternative via Mananthavady and HD Kote suits north Wayanad pickups.

One-way fares include fuel and driver allowance (minimum 130 km). Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Wayanad, billed at the round-trip rate with a daily minimum. Tolls, parking and interstate permits are extra where they apply. Tempo Travellers, Urbania and mini buses are available for round trips.
From Kalpetta the road climbs gently to Sulthan Bathery, then enters the Muthanga section of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. At the Kerala–Karnataka border the forest continues as Bandipur National Park, one of India's best-known tiger reserves. After emerging from the forest, the road crosses the farmland of Gundlupet and passes Begur and Nanjangud before entering Mysore from the south. Because night traffic restrictions apply through the forest on NH766, departure is planned so the reserve is crossed well before evening. The Bavali–HD Kote alternative also passes through forest with similar restrictions.
Season matters less than the clock on this route: night traffic restrictions apply through the forest, so the journey is built around crossing the reserve in daylight. The monsoon (June to September) adds rain and slower hairpins, and the dry months bring clearer roads and frequent wildlife sightings.
The road is in good condition, so a sedan suits most travellers, while SUVs give more room for holiday luggage. Tell us how many people and bags are travelling and we will suggest a vehicle: a Swift Dzire or Etios for small parties, an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta for families, or a Tempo Traveller 12+1, Force Urbania 16+1 or mini bus for groups.
