Our Chennai to Mysore cab is a full-day journey of about 485 km, taking 8.5–9.5 hours. The route follows NH48 via Vellore and Krishnagiri to the Bangalore outskirts, then joins the Bangalore–Mysore access-controlled expressway for the final leg. Drivers use ring roads to skirt central Bangalore where possible, making it a practical alternative to trains for families with luggage, elderly passengers or a tight schedule.

One-way fares are charged on at least 130 km. Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Chennai (970 km over 2 days, with a daily minimum). Toll, parking and state permit are extra.
Leaving Chennai via Sriperumbudur, the highway runs west past Vellore, Ambur and Krishnagiri to Hosur. From here, drivers use the NICE road or ring roads to reach Kengeri and the start of the expressway, avoiding the city centre. The expressway then bypasses Ramanagara, Channapatna, Maddur and Mandya before reaching Srirangapatna and Mysore. The Bangalore section is the main variable in timing; an early start from Chennai helps you cross it before the evening rush. An alternative via Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Kollegal is rarely faster.
December to February brings the most pleasant weather for a 485 km road trip in this region. In summer, start early to avoid the afternoon heat; during the northeast monsoon from October to December, drivers slow down in heavy rain and allow extra time around low-lying town stretches.
For nine hours on the road, an Innova Crysta or Innova is the most comfortable choice for families. Most small parties travel in a Swift Dzire or Etios. If you are carrying suitcases for a longer holiday, an Innova or Innova Crysta is worth the upgrade, and teams, pilgrim groups and wedding parties can book a Tempo Traveller 12+1, Urbania 16+1 or mini bus.
