A Chennai to Coimbatore cab is a long day on the highway, about 505 km in 8.5–9.5 hours. Most trips follow NH48 to Krishnagiri, NH44 to Salem and NH544 via Erode to Coimbatore, all four-lane. A southern option via GST Road, Ulundurpet and Attur meets the same road at Salem. Either way, it is a comfortable journey for families who prefer door-to-door travel.

One-way fares are charged on at least 130 km. Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Chennai (1010 km over 3 days, with a daily minimum). Toll, parking and state permit are extra.
Leaving Chennai via Sriperumbudur, the road passes Vellore, Ambur and Krishnagiri before turning south through Dharmapuri and the short Thoppur ghat to Salem. From Salem, NH544 heads south-west through Sankagiri, crosses the Kaveri near Bhavani and passes Perundurai and Avinashi into Coimbatore. Drivers typically plan one meal stop at Krishnagiri or Salem and a few short breaks. If you are heading to the Isha Yoga Centre, Mettupalayam or Ooty, the cab can continue beyond Coimbatore city on the same booking.
This road is open all year. The main considerations are summer heat from March to June, when a dawn start is wise, and the occasional heavy downpour during the October–December northeast monsoon. Festival weekends add traffic near Coimbatore, so book ahead if you plan to travel then.
An Innova Crysta or Innova makes this nine-hour journey far more comfortable; a sedan suits up to four light travellers. Tell us how many people and bags are travelling and we will suggest a vehicle: a Swift Dzire or Etios for small parties, an Ertiga, Innova or Innova Crysta for families, or a Tempo Traveller 12+1, Force Urbania 16+1 or mini bus for groups.
