Coorg, or Kodagu, is the nearest hill district to Mysore, and the drive to Madikeri takes about three hours over roughly 120 km. The road passes through Hunsur and Periyapatna before reaching Bylakuppe, one of India's largest Tibetan settlements, and then Kushalnagar at the edge of coffee country. Our Mysore to Coorg cab takes you to wherever you are staying, whether that is a hotel in Madikeri, a plantation homestay near Virajpet or a resort outside Kushalnagar, and our drivers are used to the narrow estate roads that Google Maps does not always get right.

One-way fares are charged on at least 130 km. Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Mysore (240 km over 1 day, with a daily minimum). Toll, parking and state permit are extra.
Unlike Ooty or Wayanad, the Mysore to Coorg road has no forest checkpost and no night closure, which makes it one of the most flexible hill trips you can take from Mysore.
Open farmland, tobacco fields and small market towns. Hunsur is a convenient place for breakfast if you have left early.
Just before Kushalnagar, a short detour leads to the Namdroling Monastery at Bylakuppe, famous for its Golden Temple. It is worth an hour of your time, and most of our travellers ask to stop here.
The road starts to climb gently through coffee and pepper estates, with silver oak trees shading the plantations. This is where the landscape changes and you know you are in Kodagu.
Coorg is a whole district, not a single town, and the drive time varies a lot depending on where you are headed.
Many homestays sit on unpaved estate roads, especially in the monsoon. Share your homestay's exact location or a map pin when booking, and our driver will call the host if needed.
October to March is the most comfortable time, with cool mornings, green estates and coffee blossoms or harvest depending on the month. April and May are warmer but still pleasant compared to Mysore. June to September brings very heavy rain. Waterfalls such as Abbey Falls and Iruppu are at their fullest, but landslides on some hill roads are possible, so we check road conditions before every monsoon trip.
A one-way drop works if you have your own plans in Coorg. But since many of the best places are spread out, a round trip with the same driver is often more convenient. A typical two-day plan we run:
Families with more time often add a day for Iruppu Falls and Nagarhole on the southern side.
Food is part of the experience too. Ask your driver to suggest a local place for Kodava pandi curry and kadambuttu, or pick up estate coffee, homemade wine and spices from the shops in Madikeri and Kushalnagar before you head home. Honey and cardamom from local co-operatives also make good gifts.
A Dzire or Etios is fine for the main road to Madikeri and most resorts. If your homestay is on an estate road or you are travelling in the monsoon, an Innova or Ertiga gives better ground clearance and more comfort on rough stretches. Groups and families on a joint holiday can take a Tempo Traveller 12+1, though some narrow estate lanes are not suitable for large vehicles; our team will tell you if that is the case for your stay.
Mobile signal can be patchy in parts of Coorg, so save your homestay's number and share it with us. Fuel and the driver's allowance are included in the quoted fare, while parking at places like Abbey Falls and Dubare is extra. For pickups from Coorg back to Mysore or onward to Bangalore or Mangalore, just let us know and we will plan the return.
The Namdroling Monastery, a large Tibetan Buddhist monastery with giant gilded statues, just off the highway near Kushalnagar.
A bamboo-covered river island near Kushalnagar reached by a hanging bridge.
Forest department elephant camp on the banks of the Kaveri, best visited in the morning.
A garden viewpoint in Madikeri, popular at sunset for its views over the valleys.
A waterfall set in coffee estates a short drive from Madikeri, at its fullest after the monsoon.
The source of the Kaveri river on Brahmagiri hill, near the temple town of Bhagamandala.

Yes, there is no forest closure on this road. That said, the last stretch has curves and the homestay roads are dark, so we recommend arriving before late evening if you can.
Yes, it is just off the route near Kushalnagar. Most travellers spend around an hour there.
For most hotels and resorts, yes. If your homestay is on an unpaved estate road, especially during the monsoon, an Innova or Ertiga is the better choice. Share the location and we will advise.
The waterfalls and greenery are spectacular, but rain is heavy and some roads can be affected. We check road conditions before departure and plan routes accordingly.
