Mysore to Tirupati Taxi

For many families in Mysore, a trip to Tirupati to see Lord Venkateswara is a once-a-year promise. The drive covers about 400 km, taking you past Bangalore and along NH 75 through Kolar and Chittoor into Andhra Pradesh, and usually takes seven and a half to eight and a half hours. Our Mysore to Tirupati taxi is planned around what matters most: your darshan time. Drivers who regularly do this pilgrimage know the timings at the Alipiri checkpoint, the ghat road to Tirumala and where to wait while you are in the queue, so the family can focus on the visit.

One-way fares include fuel and driver allowance (minimum 130 km). Round-trip fares are for the same car returning to Mysore, billed at the round-trip rate with a daily minimum. Tolls, parking and interstate permits are extra where they apply. Tempo Travellers, Urbania and mini buses are available for round trips.

Plan backwards from your darshan slot

The most common mistake we see is booking the cab first and the darshan later. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) releases special entry darshan tickets online, and the slot you get decides everything else. Once you have your slot, work back from it: allow time for the drive, for the security check at Alipiri, for the climb up the ghat road and for finding your accommodation or locker. Our coordinators help you work out a reporting time once you share your ticket details.

The route

  • Mysore to Bangalore via the expressway, with the driver bypassing the city centre on ring roads.
  • Bangalore to Kolar and Mulbagal on NH 75. Mulbagal has the Kurudumale Ganesha temple, a popular quick stop for pilgrims.
  • Across the Andhra Pradesh border to Palamaner and Chittoor; the road climbs gently through rocky, wooded hills.
  • Chittoor to Tirupati town, then on to Alipiri at the foot of the hills.

Tirupati and Tirumala are not the same place

Tirupati is the town in the plains; the Sri Venkateswara temple is at Tirumala, about 20 km up the ghat road. Outside vehicles going up must pass the Alipiri checkpoint, where luggage and vehicles are checked, and the ghat roads operate one-way, with separate up and down roads. The ghat roads have had night-time restrictions for some vehicles at times, so if you plan to go up late, check current rules. Our drivers will tell you the expected waiting time at Alipiri on the day.

A typical two-day pilgrimage plan

Day one

Leave Mysore around 4 am, reach Tirupati by early afternoon, visit Sri Padmavathi Ammavari temple at Tiruchanur and check in to a hotel in Tirupati or go up to Tirumala if your darshan is early the next morning.

Day two

Darshan at Tirumala, then visits to Sri Kalahasti, about 40 km away, or the Kapila Theertham waterfall temple at the foot of the hills. Return to Mysore in the afternoon, arriving late at night.

A three-day plan gives you more breathing room, especially with elderly members or children.

Andhra Pradesh permit and costs

The cab needs an Andhra Pradesh interstate permit, which we arrange in advance. This, along with tolls and any parking at Tirumala, is usually listed separately in the quote. The fare includes fuel and the driver's allowance, including for overnight stays on a round trip.

Vehicles for families and groups

Pilgrimages often bring the whole extended family. A Dzire or Etios takes four, an Ertiga or Innova takes six to seven, and a Tempo Traveller 12+1 or Force Urbania 16+1 lets larger families and neighbours' groups travel together. For bigger community groups, a mini bus is also available. Larger vehicles are permitted on the Tirumala ghat road, but check with us so we can plan parking.

Things pilgrims often forget

  • Original photo ID for every person named on the darshan ticket.
  • Traditional dress if you are booked for certain darshan types; TTD has a dress code.
  • Phones and cameras are not allowed inside the temple; lockers are available but queues can be long.
  • Prasadam laddus are bought at counters with your ticket; keep it safe.

Festival seasons and crowds

Brahmotsavam, usually held around September or October, and Vaikunta Ekadasi in December or January draw enormous crowds to Tirumala. Weekends, school holidays and the summer months are busy too. During these periods, expect longer waits at Alipiri, slower movement on the ghat road and fully booked rooms. If your dates fall in a festival window, start even earlier and book accommodation well in advance. A quieter weekday in the cooler months between November and February is the most relaxed time for elderly pilgrims.

Is a one-way trip possible?

Yes, one-way drops to Tirupati are available, and some people continue by train or with relatives. Most Mysore families, though, book a round trip so the same driver waits through the darshan and brings everyone home safely.

Highlights on the way

  • Trip planned around your TTD darshan slot
  • Drivers familiar with Alipiri checks and the Tirumala ghat road
  • Quick temple stops at Mulbagal and Tiruchanur
  • Andhra Pradesh permit handled in advance
  • Cars, tempo travellers and mini buses for family groups

Mysore to Tirupati cab: frequently asked questions

How long does it take to reach Tirupati from Mysore by cab?

Around seven and a half to eight and a half hours to Tirupati town. Add time for the Alipiri checkpoint and the ghat road if you are going straight up to Tirumala.

Will the cab take us up to Tirumala?

Yes, outside taxis can go up after the Alipiri security check. The ghat road is one-way in each direction, and waiting time at the checkpoint varies by day.

What time should we leave Mysore for an early morning darshan?

For a darshan early the next morning, leave Mysore the previous morning and stay overnight in Tirupati or Tirumala. Driving through the night straight into a queue is tiring, especially for elderly travellers.

Can a tempo traveller go to Tirumala?

Yes, tempo travellers and mini buses can go up. Tell us the group size and we will plan the vehicle and parking.

Is the Andhra Pradesh permit included in the fare?

We arrange the permit, and it is usually shown separately from the base fare along with tolls and parking.
